Scunthorpe v Posh: The Match Preview
Peterborough United are looking to record their first away league win of the season when they travel to Scunthorpe United on Saturday (3pm) and they will come up against a side who have yet to win in the three matches they have played so far this term.
Scunthorpe have been beaten by Leeds United and Walsall in league action and were also dumped out of the Carling Cup at the first round stage. Posh got their campaign off and running with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Leyton Orient with Craig Mackail-Smith scoring twice.
TEAM NEWS
Manager Darren Ferguson has a selection headache when it comes to the left-back position as Jamie Day is back in the squad after a minor operation in the summer curtailed his progress. Shane Blackett and Tom Williams are the other two players vying for that spot. The management have doubts over Chris Westwood who is struggling with a knock sustained in training.
Scunthorpe strengthened their defensive options with the signing of Krystian Pearce who has joined on a short-term loan from Birmingham City. Izzy Ireikpen is also back in contention after injury, but David Mirfin is suspended. Andy Crosby and Joe Wilcox are still sidelined.
MANAGER QUOTES
'Scunthorpe may not have won in the first three matches, but that will make them even more determined to get off and running on Saturday. They have a talented squad, in particular up front, and we know that it will be a difficult game. However, we go there full of confidence,' Ferguson said.
'Peterborough are a top team. They had a massive investment last season and they have high aspirations this year. They have a frontline of four who are excellent and they will present a challenge to us this weekend,' Iron boss Nigel Adkins said.
