Sergio Torres made his first appearance in a Peterborough United shirt at Corby Town on Saturday and the summer signing came through 45 minutes relatively unscathed after a spell on the sidelines.
Torres underwent an operation on his foot at the end of last season and has been working hard with physiotherapist Keith Oakes and Strength and Conditioning Coach Scott Taylor since his arrival from Wycombe Wanderers.
The Argentina-born midfielder started the pre-season friendly at Corby and despite receiving a number of clattering challenges, including one that earned Posh a penalty kick, Torres told theposh.com he is feeling fitter and injury-free.
'I just feel a bit achy all over to be honest, but that is to be expected. The main thing is my foot and ankle are fine and I am delighted to play my first game for Peterborough. I played at Corby's level for Basingstoke so I knew it was going to be physical at times and I took one or two heavy tackles.
'The penalty was a real clattering, the defender went straight through the back of me and I think he must of headed my neck! It was painful at the time, but it was nice to be able to make a contribution. From now on in, I know I have plenty of work to do on my fitness.
'It would be great to play some part, even if it is just a few minutes against Manchester United on Monday night. I don't think I will be ready to start in the first game of the season at Southend as it is important not to rush back, but we will see how it goes this week,' Torres said.
Jamie Day played an hour after a minor operation and came through unscathed while Liam Hatch completed 85 minutes after a spell on the sidelines with a nasty virus that kept him away from the club for over a week.
