Fergie Pleased With Aspects Of Performance
Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson was pleased with parts of the performance his side put in against a youthful Liverpool XI in the latest pre-season friendly at London Road.
Posh recorded a 4-1 victory over the visitors from Merseyside, but although all four goals were clinically taken, Ferguson believes there are still aspects to work on ahead of the new League One campaign.
'It is always nice to win because it breeds confidence and that is our third win in a row. I was pleased with parts of the performance and the players can take a lot of positives from it, but there are still things to work on. We kept the ball well in certain areas, but we gave it away cheaply in others.
'The four goals we scored were all well-taken and it was great to see young Alfie Potter make and score one of them. He played the full 90 minutes and I was pleased with what he showed. He can have a big part to play this year and he should be happy with his display.
'I gave trialist Paul Coutts a start and I was happy with him. He kept the ball well, passed it well and we will take another look at him on Tuesday night when we travel to Stevenage Borough. He has trained a week with us and we will assess how he does in a more physical game at Broadhall Way. He certainly needs to bulk up a bit physically but I have always said he would be one for the future.
'I thought Chris Whelpdale did very well at right back, but obviously if Russell Martin had been fully fit he would have started on the right hand side of midfield. I spoke to Chris last season and said he may fill the right-back role if required and I thought he did very well there against Liverpool,' Ferguson told theposh.com.
