Striker Aaron Mclean was the player the supporters were talking about as they left London Road on Saturday afternoon but it was his clinical finish from an Alfie Potter cross that was the discussion topic.

Mclean opened the scoring as he converted from close-range after Posh took a quick free-kick as the visitors lapsed in concentration. Mclean is just concentrating on scoring goals and was delighted to get his name on the score-sheet.

'It was great to score and that will hopefully be the first of many. I am back to what I enjoy doing. I have to say that Alfie did really well for the goal, he pulled it back nicely and it was pleasing to see the ball hit the back of the net.

'I thought we were really professional against a useful, energetic and talented Liverpool squad and it is always important to win matches, whatever the opposition as it breeds confidence. That is three wins in a row and we look to continue that good form,' Mclean told theposh.com.

Meanwhile Paul Coutts is hoping to win a contract at London Road after a good showing at the heart of the Posh midfield. Coutts is currently on trial and is due to play against Stevenage Borough on Tuesday evening with manager Darren Ferguson set to make his verdict next week.

'I really want to play for Peterborough,' Coutts said. 'I believe I am good enough, I know I have to bulk up physically, but I am very keen to impress and show what I can do. I felt I did okay against Liverpool and I hope I can do well against Stevenage but the pressure is on! It has been hard because the training is really intense, but all pre-seasons are difficult.'
