Morgan Handed Posh Captaincy
Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has named Welsh defender Craig Morgan as his captain for the Coca-Cola League One campaign.
Morgan, 23, is a regular in the Wales national side and was part of an impressive back-line that helped Posh secure automatic promotion, forming a dominant partnership with Chris Westwood at the heart of the defence.
Ferguson explained his reasons behind the appointment: 'I decided to have a new captain for the new season because I have to use Micah Hyde more sparingly this season. He understands the situation and hasn't got a problem. He will still be club captain, he is going to do his badges and do more coaching, doing a bit with the youth team to gain experience.
'I just think Craig is at a stage where he needs the responsibility of being captain, he has kicked on from the end of last season to the start of this. He is a full international with Wales and I spoke to Roy Evans over the summer and he feels that he is more than capable of holding down a regular place in the Welsh team.
'His performances last season were excellent and overall I just felt he was the right choice. I wanted one of my main centre backs to be captain. He is definitely more responsible, he has grown up a lot, started a family and I think it is the right time to hand him the captaincy,' Ferguson told theposh.com.
We will be speaking to Morgan later today on theposh.com.
