Newton Shows Interest In Brentford Move
Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry has revealed that long-serving winger Adam Newton could depart London Road before the start of the Coca-Cola League One campaign in August after expressing a move to Brentford.
The Bees enquired about the services of the right-back and Newton has indicated to the management at Posh that he would be 'interested' in a possible move to Griffin Park. Fry believes other clubs could show an interest after Newton was placed on the transfer list.
'Brentford made an enquiry for Adam and he is quite keen on the move. Unfortunately Brentford can't afford to pay him what he is getting at Peterborough and we as a club are not prepared to give him the money to leave because he has another year left on his contract and ended the season in the team.
'However, Adam has expressed an interest in leaving and that has left the chairman and the manager thinking that it is best that he goes on the transfer list. We will see what happens from now on in because we don't want to keep unhappy players at this football club.
'Adam finished the season in the starting line-up and performed quite well. He has been a great servant to us on and off the field, but sometimes in football you reach the cross-roads and maybe it is time for us to part. It is up to Adam really,' Fry said.
