Wrexham v Posh - The Match Preview

Posted on: Tue 26 Feb 2008

Peterborough United travel to the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday evening to face Wrexham who currently occupy bottom spot in Coca-Cola League Two despite a six-match unbeaten run.

The Red Dragons, managed by Brian Little, were held to a goal-less draw by Grimsby Town on Saturday and would have targeted a minimum of four points from their back-to-back home fixtures so three points against the Posh is imperative for their survival chances.

Darren Ferguson's men are also on a good run with only one league defeat in the last 10 matches, picking up four clean sheets in the last five matches and only finding themselves outside the automatic promotion places on goal difference.

TEAM NEWS
Posh are boosted by the return of Micah Hyde and Jamie Day after the pair missed the weekend win at Macclesfield. Hyde has been out for over two weeks with his hamstring strain while Day sat out the 3-0 win at Moss Rose due to a back injury.

Tom Williams (suspended) and Kieran Charnock (knee) are the only two absentees. Wrexham are likely to be without captain Neil Roberts due to an ankle injury while Rob Duffy is expected to lead the line if the club can't bring back Drewe Broughton from Milton Keynes Dons on-loan.

ONE TO WATCH
Danny Sonner (pictured) was a key performer for Wrexham in the goal-less draw at London Road. He likes to get on the ball and try and dictate the play, but on a tricky surface that could prove difficult on Tuesday.

MANAGER QUOTES
'Wrexham made it difficult for us at London Road and we know what to expect at the Racecourse Ground on what I am sure will be a heavy pitch. The first goal could prove to be crucial and we will be keen to make sure it is ourselves that score it,' Ferguson said.

'Peterborough were disappointed they didn't beat us a few weeks ago and I understand that, but we are looking forward to it every bit as much as they are and I'm quite sure it will be a good game. I genuinely hope we can do well against them, but I am very mindful of the fact that they are a very, very good side.

'And in fairness to Darren (Ferguson) and Kevin (Russell) they are probably doing one of the hardest things in lower league football. When you are expected to do something and expected to do well, that's as hard a job as you can get at this level and to be fair to them they are doing pretty well at the moment. So they have our respect and we are looking forward to the game,' Little said.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The state of the Wrexham pitch will be of cause to concern to the Posh management. Described in the local Wrexham newspaper as a surface 'resembling a soggy beach', the pitch will no doubt be a difficult proposition to both sides who like to play football.

KICK-OFF
The game gets underway at 7.45pm and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire will be broadcasting the full 90 minutes through The Posh World service.
