Blanchett Keen to Take Opportunity

Posted on: Mon 25 Feb 2008

Daniel Blanchett made his first league start for Peterborough United in the 3-0 win at Macclesfield Town and after an assured display at left back has presented manager Darren Ferguson with a selection poser ahead of the trip to Wrexham on Tuesday night.

Blanchett replaced Jamie Day who failed a fitness test on a back injury, but Ferguson hinted that Day should be fit to face the Dragons at the Racecourse Ground. However, Blanchett defended resolutely and provided the pass for Chris Whelpdale's 20-yard strike for the second goal and the former Cambridge City man is hoping for a run in the side.

'It was great to be involved especially in a 3-0 win. The lads dug in deep and although it wasn't a game for the purists, it was another determined display from the lads. I have an opportunity to show what I can do and I aim to take the chance if it comes on Tuesday.

'I have worked really hard over the last three weeks and I hope for a better end to the season because it has been tough this year. I had a double hernia operation earlier in the campaign and that set me back and I have had to really wait for my opportunity.

'I have trained every day and done a lot of work in the gym and I am ready for the challenge. Against Macclesfield it was good to come in because the lads were playing with confidence and defending really well.

'A lot of the ball came down my side, particularly in the first 20 minutes, but I dug in and thought I did okay. I felt like I got a bit stronger as the game progressed and obviously the game was over when Aaron Mclean scored,' Blanchett told theposh.com.
