Posh Swoop For Hughes

Posted on: Thu 22 Nov 2007

Peterborough United have signed Crystal Palace left-back Jeff Hughes on-loan until the beginning of January with the Larne-born defender set to go straight into the squad for this weekend's clash with Brentford at London Road.

Hughes was a regular in the Palace side at the start of the season after joining the Championship club in the summer from Lincoln City, where he had made 55 league starts, scoring eight goals.

Manager Darren Ferguson was delighted to get his man: 'We have been looking for left-sided players and it was well publicised about Tom Williams, but he wanted a permanent deal and we were only offering a loan. We are fortunate to get Jeff.

'He has been playing in the Championship and went for £300,000 from Lincoln. He is a left-back who can play left-wing back or left-wing and is a good addition to the squad. He gives us good height and I am delighted to get him in,' Ferguson said.

Hughes is due to train with his new team-mates on Thursday and could make his debut against the Bees on Saturday.
