Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has heaped praise on his team after the 2-1 win against Wycombe Wanderers in the League Two fixture at London Road.
Posh had suffered a number of injury blows in the run up to the match which resulted in Ferguson calling back on-loan defender Guy Branston from Rochdale. Ferguson believes that the display against Wycombe was one of the best this season and couldn't fault the team in their efforts to win.
'At times we played a lot of entertaining football and we created lots of chances. I said at half time to the lads, we have just got to keep going and playing the way we are.
'The biggest thing I have said this year is that we must keep concentrating and I think after they got a goal back we did lose our concentration a little bit. That is the only minor criticism I would have today,' said Ferguson.
Ferguson had been plagued with the problem of who to play in defence leading up to the game. With Shane Blackett out with a knee injury, Kieran Charnock and Josh Low out with hamstring injuries and Craig Morgan away on international duty with Wales, the Posh manager selected Charlie Lee in defence ahead of recently recalled Branston.
'I took the decision to play Charlie ahead of Guy because Charlie played over 90 percent of his games at Tottenham in defence. It then gave us the option to play Dean Keates in central midfield who I think did very well and made some excellent passes,' added Ferguson.
George Boyd claimed his fifth goal of the new campaign and the versatile player has earned rave reviews from Ferguson after a number of good performances in recent weeks.
'Boydie has had a few fantastic games for us in the past weeks. He can play anywhere, he has had to adapt and play a few positions for us, on the right wing, left wing or up front and when we can get the ball into him he is a real threat to the opposition. Chris Whelpdale came on and played very well as did Rene Howe. I was very pleased overall with the performance the lads put in,' Ferguson concluded.
Posh's next fixture is away to local rivals Lincoln City in this weekend's League Two match. The game kicks-off at 1pm on Saturday at Sincil Bank and is an ALL TICKET affair. Tickets are priced at £16 for adults, £11 for concessions and £5 for under 16s and are available until Friday from the London Road Box Office.
