Branston Full Of Praise For Fans

Posted on: Mon 15 Oct 2007

Guy Branston was given a fantastic reception from the London Road faithful as he replaced the injured Claude Gnakpa during Peterborough United's hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on Sunday.

Branston was recalled from his loan spell at Rochdale due to a defensive crisis at London Road and when Gnakpa suffered an ankle injury, the powerful centre back was called upon by boss Darren Ferguson to return to the fold.

'It was a great reception from the supporters, not just when I came on, but when I was warming up and that was fantastic to hear. The fans have always took to me and I think that is because I do my best in every game I play. I set high standards for myself and I always try to reach those standards. The fans know they are going to get an honest shift out of me.

'I don't shy away from tackles or headers, I throw myself into everything. I was very disappointed not to start and I am disappointed I am not playing week in, week out, but the manager picks the side and I abide by that. I could moan and groan, but I am desperate to play football and football at Peterborough United.

'We were rocked when they equalised, but it is lower league football and the concentration levels will not be there for the full 90 minutes for all 11 players. We got the winner and I felt we deserved that because we missed a lot of chances.

'I heard an interview with the manager last week about only having 16 players to train, but they are all top quality players. At Rochdale one day we only had seven players training and that is difficult. With the squad we have we should be top of the league and I have no doubt we will get promoted. I have seen what quality we have in this football club and I want to be a part of that,' Branston told theposh.com.
