Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has hinted at a loan arrival in the wake of an injury to centre back Kieran Charnock during the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round loss at Milton Keynes Dons.

The former Northwich defender suffered a hamstring strain at Stadium: MK and is set for a spell on the sidelines and with Craig Morgan away on international duty with Wales and Shane Blackett ruled out for three weeks, the defensive options are limited.

'To lose Kieran after 70 minutes to a hamstring strain was obviously disappointing and we will have to look at bringing someone in because we have limited options now. There is a chance we could recall Guy Branston, but I am looking at bringing someone in anyway.

'I was disappointed to lose the game too because I felt it was a competition we could do well in. After going 1-0 up I felt we were comfortable and in control of the match, but we conceded a goal on the counter attack and in the second half we were frustrating to watch.

'It was disappointing that our strikers wanted to walk the ball into the back of the net on three occasions. They just need to have a shot and we could have got back into the game. However, we didn't and in the end we were chasing the tie,' Ferguson told theposh.com.
