Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson was delighted with his side's impressive 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and was pleased with the performance of centre back Kieran Charnock.
Charnock made his first League start for Posh at the City Ground after moving to London Road from Conference side Northwich Victoria during the summer.
'I think Kieran played very well against a good side, it was a good test for him. He showed a great attitude in what was his first competitive game for us. I was very pleased with the presence he gave us in defence,' Ferguson said.
Ferguson believes that the first half of the match was finely balanced with little to separate the two teams. Posh looked to be comfortable at 0-0 but lost a goal on 33 minutes with Forest defender Luke Chambers scoring from close-range.
'I told the lads at half time just to keep the composure, maintain the concentration and up the tempo. I knew if we did all of these we definitely had a chance to get something out of the game,' Ferguson added.
Posh youngster Charlie Lee equalised on 48 minutes with a fantastic 25 yard left foot shot which led to a manic three minutes. Forest defender Luke Chambers scored just one minute later to put Forest back ahead, but then scored an own goal making the scores level at 2-2. Manager Ferguson conceded that those three minutes were certainly filled with a lot of excitement.
'The three minutes with three goals drove me mental, but the commitment was fantastic from the lads and they really proved that they were worthy of the win. I knew that if we could keep playing the way we were, we could go on and get the win,' Ferguson said.
Posh sealed the win on 72 minutes when striker George Boyd slid the ball home to earn the team a 3-2 victory. The draw for the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy takes place on Saturday live on Soccer AM.
