Lee: 'Best Goal I Have Scored'

Posted on: Fri 07 Sep 2007

Charlie Lee has now scored three goals in three games, but his latest strike has been hailed as his best ever after the former Tottenham Hotspur midfield man rifled home a stunning 25-yard effort with his weaker left-foot.

The former Spurs reserve team captain drew Peterborough United level against Nottingham Forest and then helped his team-mates secure an impressive 3-2 victory at a sparsely populated City Ground.

'It is most definitely the best goal I have ever scored. I just thought when the ball dropped to my feet, why not hit it? We were behind in the game, so I thought I would have a go even though it was on my weaker foot.

'I was obviously delighted to see it hit the back of the net and it was a great feeling. I just remember running after the ball hit the net, I think I ended up high fiving Danny Crow on the bench!

'I think we deserved the win though. We were the better side in the first 20 minutes and their goal came a bit out of the blue. We regrouped at half-time and came out firing on all cylinders, so it was disappointing to concede so soon after we had scored.

'I really enjoyed the game and I must praise the supporters because they were first class from the first whistle to the last. There was nearly 500 of them behind the goal and they never stopped cheering us on. It is pleasing we were able to deliver a win for them,' Lee told theposh.com.

Striker Aaron Mclean is unsurprisingly claiming the second Posh goal despite it being credited as a Luke Chambers own goal. 'It is definitely my goal,' Mclean insisted afterwards. 'I am on five goals for the season now!'
