Posh Handed Albion Tie

Posted on: Thu 16 Aug 2007

Peterborough United's reward for beating Southampton in round one of the Carling Cup is another home tie against Championship opposition, this time West Bromwich Albion will visit London Road.

The draw which was conducted live on Sky Sports following Rotherham's 3-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday pitted Darren Ferguson's men with an attractive tie against the side who have featured in the Premier League in recent seasons.

The Posh boss gave his immediate reaction to the draw: 'It is a good tie for us. We are at home again and I am sure it will be a good atmosphere because night games tend to generate a decent crowd and West Brom will fetch a few supporters with them.

'I am an ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers player so I am sure I will get a bit of stick from the Albion fans, but I look forward to the game as I am sure the players and fans are. West Brom like to get the ball down and play and so do we so it should be an excellent spectacle.

'We want a good cup run, it generates interest among the supporters and we hope we can progress. It will be a difficult test, but we are ready for it,' Ferguson said.
