Ferguson Takes Positives From Loss

Posted on: Wed 01 Aug 2007

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson looked to the positives despite the defeat to the Premier League new boys Birmingham City at London Road on Tuesday evening.

The Blues scored three goals in 10 minutes during the second half as Posh suffered a home defeat in the penultimate home pre-season friendly ahead of the new Coca-Cola League Two campaign.

'We can take a lot of positives from the game, I thought we were on top up until they scored and even at 3-0 down, we created numerous chances in front of goal. There were some good performances, up until 1-0 and then we got a bit ragged defensively.

'Sometimes you have to remember that Birmingham are a Premier League team and we are in League Two. There is a big gap between the two sides, but I thought we caused them problems, particularly up front with Aaron Mclean, who I thought was excellent.

'He looked sharp and ran them ragged at times. We have good strikers at this football club and they will provide great competition. Charlie Lee gave another wholehearted performance and he loves a tackle. He has to be careful in league matches because he may get booked on occasions.

'We have arranged a friendly at Bedford on Tuesday which will give Craig Mackail-Smith a chance to get a game under his belt as he has missed the majority of pre-season,' Ferguson said.
