Low Earns Posh Draw
Josh Low came off the substitutes bench at the interval to earn Peterborough United a 1-1 draw at Blue Square Premier outfit Stevenage Borough in a hard-fought friendly on Tuesday evening.
Low scored from close-range four minutes after the re-start to cancel out a penalty from John Nutter in the first half as Posh put in a mixed display. In the first 45 minutes the hosts were the more dominant team and Posh struggled in possession, but after three substitutions, Darren Ferguson's men soon got on top in the second period and created some notable opportunities.
Striker Rene Howe, who was praised by the management after the final whistle, came close on a number of occasions with goalkeeper Alan Julian putting in an outstanding display. He denied Howe's fierce low effort with a fine fingertip save and then pushed a fierce header from the former Kettering front man away to safety.
Adam Newton and Low linked impressively down the right in the second 45 minutes, while Keates' delivery from set-pieces caught the eye as did Jamie Day's marauding runs down the left.
However, in the first 45 minutes, it was Stevenage who looked dominant and Shwan Jalal had to be alert to keep the score at one with Adam Miller among the players to be denied. Jalal also tipped a swerving Nutter shot from 25-yards over the crossbar after Micah Hyde had been unexpectedly robbed in possession.
George Boyd came close with a dipping volley in the dying moments of the first half on his return to Broadhall Way while Strachan should have done better after good work from Howe, but his left-foot shot was saved by Julian.
Final Score: Stevenage Borough 1-1 Posh
