Manager Darren Ferguson was thrilled to see a crowd of over 9,000 turn up at London Road to watch Mark Tyler's testimonial with a Liverpool XI on Saturday afternoon.

The Peterborough United boss was satisfied with certain aspects of his team's performance against a youthful Liverpool side with the game ending goal-less - Posh squandering the best chance when Dean Keates saw his spot-kick saved in the first half.

'It was fantastic to see so many fans at London Road and I am really pleased for Mark, it was his day and he deserved it. It worked out well for him, especially as he kept a clean sheet.

'It was useful for us, these games are unrealistic because we won't come up against this sort of opposition and the Stevenage and Kettering games will be more what we will be used to next season, but it was good for us fitness wise.

'I have finished my signings most definitely, no-one else will be coming in. I am happy with the squad, we have a realistic chance of getting promotion and I have two players for each position and you will have to be on top form to stay in my starting line-up.

'We have a good team spirit and we are looking forward to the season starting. The pre-season games are dragging on, I want the season to start now. However, you have to prepare in the right way and it is important that we are not picking up any injuries from the friendlies,' Ferguson told theposh.com.

Craig Mackail-Smith and Chris Westwood have yet to feature in any of the friendly matches to date and neither have Daniel Blanchett and Adam Smith. Ferguson is hopeful the quartet will return from the sidelines in the next two weeks, but admits they will be behind schedule.

'It is disappointing they haven't played yet and I don't think Craig or Chris will be fit next week, so they are going to be behind the rest of the squad fitness wise,' Ferguson added.
