Over 9,000 supporters packed into London Road to thank Mark Tyler for more than 10 years of loyal service as Peterborough United and Liverpool played out a goal-less draw.

The two teams formed a guard of honour for the man of the moment Mark Tyler and as he emerged from the London Road tunnel, there was rapturous applause from the 9,000+ crowd as they acclaimed their number one.

Besian Idrizaj tested Tyler with a fierce 20-yard effort as the visitors from Anfield made a bright start on a slick surface. Posh responded well with a neat move of their own with George Boyd spreading the ball into the path of Josh Low, but his cross was headed clear by Micki Roque.

Ronald Huth saw a left-foot free-kick fly over the crossbar after Blackett had been penalised for a foul on the edge of the area. A superb flick from Idrizaj found Le Tallec in space, he managed to evade the slide from Tyler and clipped a delightful centre across the box, which Newton did well to head clear.

At the other end, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Charlie Lee headed a Dean Keates corner over the crossbar after Low had won the set-piece down the left. The impressive Idrizaj stung the palms of Tyler with a low drive on 35 minutes as Liverpool continued to create the opportunities in front of goal.

Le Tallec, a French midfielder who has made over 30 appearances in the first team at Anfield, fired a long-range effort well over the bar on 42 minutes. Posh were awarded a spot-kick moments later after a handball by Roque and it was Keates who stepped up, much to the disappointment of the home fans who were desperate to see Tyler take it, and they were even more frustrated as the midfielder saw his effort tipped onto the post by Hansen.

Manager Darren Ferguson made two changes at the interval with Chris Whelpdale and Jamie Day introduced into the fray. The sun was shining as the second half began, but it was a fairly dull start to proceedings with neither side keeping the ball for long periods.

Defender Blackett came close to scoring on 54 minutes after a well-flighted cross from Keates, but Hansen was equal to the header, palming the ball over the crossbar.

Posh made sweeping changes on the hour mark with Ferguson taking the chance to blood a few more of his squad players. Le Tallac floated a free-kick wide of Tyler's left-hand post on 64 minutes as the visitors continued to dominate in the attacking third.

Tyler was withdrawn to a standing ovation on 68 minutes with Shwan Jalal given the chance to impress. Boyd squandered the best opening of the game on 80 minutes after cutting inside from the left, but his low shot was easily saved by Hansen.

Charnock headed a Day corner wide of the target moments after the attendance of 9,339 was announced over the tannoy - a testament to the popularity of Tyler and a reward for his long service.

In the dying minutes, Boyd saw a shot blocked before the referee brought an end to the action. A game of few clear-cut chances, but for the near 10,000 crowd, it was saying thank you to Tyler rather than being entertained in the attacking third.
