Whelpdale Off And Running
Chris Whelpdale scored his first goals in a Peterborough United shirt as the club recorded a 3-1 pre-season victory at non-league Hucknall Town on Wednesday evening.
The former Billericay winger scored a fine volley from 20-yards and then rounded off the victory late on with a coolly taken finish as Darren Ferguson's men secured their second pre-season win.
Whelpdale, speaking to theposh.com, said: 'It is always good to get your first goal under your belt and to be fair, I was really happy with it as it was a decent strike. The second goal was more instinctive and those sort of positions are the ones I like getting into.
'The manager was happy with the positions I was getting into and I was pleased to get another 45 minutes under my belt. It is a chance to impress at this moment in time and I want to try and take my opportunity in the first team if I am given it. That is my aim, I want to be in the first starting XI of the new campaign,' Whelpdale said.
Ferguson was complimentary about Whelpdale's display and believes he has good potential. 'Chris is a young lad and has plenty of ability. He took his goals very well and has impressed us in training. He has the potential to do very well for us.'
