Ferguson Happy With Work-Out
Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson was pleased with certain aspects of his side's performance in the 3-1 pre-season victory over Hucknall Town on Wednesday evening, but insisted there is still room for plenty of improvement.
A brace of goals from Chris Whelpdale and a close-range strike by Gavin Strachan earned Posh a comfortable away win and Ferguson was happy that the majority of his squad got another 45 minutes under their belts.
'It was another good 45 minutes for the players and Charlie Lee and Danny Crow got an hour under their belts. It is all about fitness at the moment and later on in the pre-season schedule we will start giving players longer.
'We were disappointing in the final third, particularly in the first half and that has to improve, but to be fair we are only a couple of games in and they may be rusty. It is concentration levels, we are going to have a lot of games where we are going to dominate matches and we have to remain patient.
'In fairness, we have worked mainly on fitness, we haven't worked specifically on crossing and finishing as of yet, that is something we will work on in the next few days. I was pleased that everyone came through without any injuries and there were a lot of positives to take from it.
'Having said that, I was very disappointed that we conceded, we shouldn't be conceding goals to teams like Hucknall, no disrespect to them, but we should be getting clean sheets under our belts at this stage in the pre-season,' Ferguson said.
