Strachan Excited By Celtic Challenge
Everyone at Peterborough United is looking forward to the mouth-watering friendly against Scottish double-winners Celtic on Friday 13th July, none more so than midfielder Gavin Strachan, who will be coming up against the club managed by his father.
Gordon Strachan has been in charge at Parkhead for the last few seasons and the Hoops have won back to back doubles, as well as performing well in the European Champions League with AC Milan knocking them out at the quarter-final stage after extra-time in the Italian capital last term.
It will be the first time that Gavin has faced a side managed by his father and admits it is a match that he cannot wait for. 'I have never played against one of his teams before, so I just hope I get out on the pitch and try and give a good account of myself. I am sure at the full-time whistle we will get a good chance to have a chat.
'I am really looking forward to the game, it is going to be a great evening and I can't wait. It should be a lively atmosphere with all the Jocks coming down,' Strachan said in an interview, which will be printed in full in the Celtic match day programme.
Gavin has been impressed with the way Celtic have performed in recent times and the European success proves how the game is developing north of the border. 'Celtic have performed to a high standard over the last couple of years and the consistency levels they have shown has been one of the major reasons behind their success.
'The perception of Celtic and Rangers is that they will cruise their domestic competitions and when it comes to Europe they will struggle, but Celtic made a breakthrough last term reaching the last 16 of the Champions League and they want to push on again this season,' Strachan added.
