Spurs Youngster Signs

Posted on: Wed 23 May 2007

Manager Darren Ferguson has secured his fourth signing of the close season with the arrival of highly-rated youngster Charlie Lee who has penned a three-year contract at London Road following his release from Tottenham Hotspur.

Highly rated Lee, who can operate as a central defender or a holding midfielder, spent the latter part of last season on-loan at League One outfit Millwall and a host of clubs were chasing his signature. He also captained the Tottenham reserve side for much of that campaign and made a number of substitute appearances in both the Premier League and UEFA Cup.

The 20-year-old has agreed a move to Peterborough United and explained his reasons behind the decision exclusively to The Posh World: 'The club is very ambitious and I am an ambitious player. I had a look around on Tuesday and I was very impressed with what I saw. There were a few clubs interested in me, but I am delighted to sign for Peterborough.'

Ferguson was pleased to get his man: 'I am pleased that Charlie has agreed to sign for us, he is a winner and that is the sort of player that we want at this football club. I have seen him play on a number of occasions, he can play at the back or in midfield and I am delighted he is on board.'

Posh Director of Football Barry Fry added: 'Charlie and his representatives came down on Tuesday, we showed him around the training ground and offered him terms. Darren interrupted his family holiday in Spain to talk to him on a few occasions and I think that has tipped the balance and he phoned me on Tuesday night to say he wants to sign.

'We travelled down to London on Wednesday and sorted everything out and he has signed a three-year contract. I am delighted, we had opposition from 16 other clubs and I believe it will go down as one of the best signings Peterborough United have ever made.

'This transfer would not have been possible without the help and assistance of Darragh MacAnthony who once again has showed his ambition in making Peterborough United a force to be reckoned with,' Fry said.

An exclusive interview with Charlie can be seen on The Posh World here.
