Peterborough United are into the last 16 of the Carling Cup after a totally dominant performance against a poor Newcastle United, who were totally outclassed by Darren Ferguson's men at London Road.
Posh made a lively start to the cup-tie with Lee Frecklington bursting into the box after a neat pass from Coutts, but the midfielder took a heavy touch and Steven Taylor managed to clear.
On eight minutes, striker Craig Mackail-Smith was denied by a superb save by Tim Krul and moments later a goal-mouth scramble ensued after Aaron Mclean's effort struck the underside of the crossbar, with Mclean and Mackail-Smith both denied before the latter poked wide from close-range.
Ryan Taylor flashed a shot wide of the target on 14 minutes after advancing from left-back into space as Newcastle tried to get to grips with proceedings.
The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes and it was another header from Craig MACKAIL-SMITH who diverted the ball past Krul from close-range after Tozer's clearance rebounded into the six-yard box off Boyd. It was a goal that Posh deserved for their first 15 minutes of pressure.
Frecklington hooked a volley over the bar after Coutts clearance was only half cleared by Tavernier as Posh continued to dominate.
Morgan was fortunate not to give away a penalty after appearing to foul LuaLua on 24 minutes, the referee pointing for a corner kick.
Goalkeeper Krul made a superb save to deny Diagouraga after another clearance from a Newcastle defender rebounded towards goal. Morgan headed straight at Krul from the resulting set-piece.
On 31 minutes, it was 2-0 to the hosts as more terrible defending from Newcastle allowed the ball to be fed to WILLIAMS by Boyd and the defender picked out a gap at the near post and found the back of the net to the delight of the experienced full-back.
A minute later, Krul was to the rescue of the visitors as Boyd let fly from distance, the shot-stopper pushing the effort around the post.
Krul then dropped the ball on the edge of the area and was cautioned after then picking it up as it appeared to go from bad to worse for the Toon Army. Mclean fired the free-kick into the wall, but the deflection didn't run kindly for Posh. Guthrie was then booked for kicking the ball away. Diagouraga followed him into the book for a rash tackle on LuaLua.
Steven Taylor was booked for a push on Mackail-Smith and it is fair to say that the visitors were getting a bit more possession, but they were looking shaky at the back.
Newcastle had appeals for a spot-kick turned down when Williams and Lovenkrands clashed before Mackail-Smith saw a powerful drive tipped onto the bar by Krul for a corner kick.

Dean Keates replaced Frecklington at the break to provide a bit of protection for the back four.
Krul continued his superb performance with another excellent save from a fierce Boyd effort after the former Stevenage Borough man ghosted past two defenders.
Scottish midfielder Coutts found the side-netting with a low left-foot effort on 51 minutes and then Mclean found Mackail-Smith in space, but the striker was denied in a one-on-one situation by the over-worked Krul.
On 54 minutes, Newcastle were reduced to 10-men as Danny Guthrie was given a second caution for a late lunge on Boyd in midfield.
Ryan Taylor curled a free-kick wide of the target before Newcastle made their changes with a triple substitution, Kevin Nolan, Geremi and Alan Smith the men introduced.
Dean Keates had a go from 20-yards but Krul made a comfortable save as Posh tried to make their numerical advantage count.
At the other end, Nolan headed a Taylor cross wide of the target from 10-yards before Keates was inches away from a superb third after a low Boyd cross picked him out, he took an expert first touch, but drilled his volley past the post.
Posh were wasting a host of chances with Mclean denied by Krul and then Boyd saw a goal-bound effort blocked by Taylor before Mclean fired wide with the rebound.
Krul denied Boyd on 71 minutes after the winger again made progress into the box and the same man stopped Boyd moments later although this was a more routine stop.
Boyd fired wide from long-range after Smith was lucky to escape a caution after hacking down Keates.
Alan Smith produced a superb clearance off the line to deny Morgan the third goal and then Williams fired wide after racing into space as Posh somehow still couldn't find that next goal. Krul then produced an unbelievable save to deny Mclean who was sent through on goal by Keates.
Man of the match Mackail-Smith was given a standing ovation as he was replaced by Whelpdale for the final four minutes.
Joe Lewis made his first save of the evening on 88 minutes as Taylor headed towards goal after a cross into the box by Geremi.
Posh deserved their progress, Newcastle were awful throughout. The draw for the next round is at 12.15pm on Saturday, live on Sky Sports News.
