Peterborough United claimed their first point from the Coca-Cola Championship campaign after a battling 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at London Road.
Posh made a bright start to the game at London Road and came close to breaking the deadlock on 11 minutes when Aaron Mclean beat the offside trap, but his lob found the top of the net to the disappointment of the London Road crowd.
Sheffield Wednesday were soon attacking themselves and from a fairly slow build-up, found the opening goal as a cross into the box from Tommy Spurr found James O'CONNOR whose fine header crept past Lewis and into the back of the net.
The lively Jermaine Johnson fired over the bar on 22 minutes after a neat turn as the Owls tried to add a quick-fire second goal.
Posh, and the pace of Craig Mackail-Smith in particular, were still causing problems to the Owls back-line and from a corner kick, won via the hard-work of the striker, Gabriel Zakuani sent a downward header straight into the arms of Lee Grant.
A cross from Purse ended up causing one or two problems for Lewis on 34 minutes, the goalkeeper doing well to tip the ball over the crossbar. A goal-mouth scramble followed in the resulting corner before Lewis pounced on the loose ball.
A looping header from Mclean went wide of the target on 38 minutes after a good cross from left-back Williams.
Lee headed wide from a corner kick when well-placed three minutes before the interval as Posh pressed for an equaliser.
Half-time: Posh 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday
An impressive burst from Toumani Diagouraga created a chance for Craig Mackail-Smith, but his first time shot went well wide of the target.
A neat link-up between Diagouraga and Mclean created a half-chance for Boyd, but his shot deflected kindly into the arms of Grant.
Posh got themselves level on 62 minutes and it was a glorious run and cross from Williams which produced the equaliser, Craig MACKAIL-SMITH ghosting in at the far post to nod past Grant.
Mackail-Smith fired an ambitious volley well wide moments later as Posh, with their tails up, sensed a second goal.
A powerful run from Mclean nearly produced that second goal, but as he cut inside, defender Purse made a timely intervention with Batt lurking.
Darren Ferguson's men were playing some excellent football in the final third and but for a tremendous block from Lewis Buxton, Boyd would have certainly severely tested Grant.
Lewis beat away a fierce O'Connor free-kick on 78 minutes after Morgan was harshly judged to have fouled Johnson.
Batt saw a speculative volley go wide on 88 minutes but both sides seemed content to take a point from proceedings.
