Liam Dickinson played a starring role on his Peterborough United debut as he scored a fine free-kick and created the second for Lee Frecklington as Jim Gannon's men recorded their second successive home victory.

Ipswich Town made a bright start to the game at London Road and if it wasn't for goalkeeper Joe Lewis, the visitors would have been 1-0 up as David Healy beat the offside trap, Lewis raced from his line to deny the front man before taking a clattering from the former Fulham man.

On nine minutes, Ipswich Town opened the scoring as Lewis inexplicably missed an in-swinging corner from Grant Leadbitter and MURPHY was well positioned to head home from close-range to give the Tractor Boys the lead.

Lewis was in the action again moments later as Walters got in around the back of Rowe, this time the effort was more routine for the Posh shot-stopper. Lewis then saved from Murphy on 13 minutes as the visitors continued to dominate proceedings.

On 25 minutes, a deep cross from Rowe eluded Craig Mackail-Smith at the back post as Posh launched a rare attack, with the visitors still very much in control of the attacking third.

Simpson was booked for a foul on Colback as Roy Keane prowled the touchline. Posh should have levelled on 32 minutes after great work from Josh Simpson, the midfielder squaring the ball to Mackail-Smith at the back post, whose shot was well blocked by Colback five yards from goal.

Norris was cautioned for deliberate handball before Mackail-Smith was withdrawn as Reuben Reid came into the action. The substitution was met with shock from the home faithful, but Reid showed enough in the second half at Middlesbrough to warrant a go, although it was unexpected that it came so early.

Reid showed good pace and delivered an accurate low centre, which was well cleared by Liam Rosenior as Posh threatened an equaliser.

Half-time: Posh 0-1 Ipswich Town

Posh levelled the scores on 47 minutes as debutant Liam DICKINSON curled a left-foot free-kick over the wall and past goalkeeper Lee-Barrett in the corner of the net. Reid had won the free-kick with a purposeful run.

Lewis made a superb block to deny the pacy Jon Walters moments later as the second hald began with plenty of end to end action. Ipswich responded by bringing on Jaime Peters with Owen Garvan the man replaced.

Simpson saw a shot blocked as Dickinson picked out the midfield runner and the pace of the second half was certainly a lot quicker than the first and the atmosphere was a bit different too, with the home fans now playing their part.

Bennett produced a fine last-ditch block to send a Norris shot wide of the target on 62 minutes with the corner coming to nothing. Incredibly, Posh turned the game on its head moments later as a great move involving Simpson and Livemore ended with a superb flick from Dickinson into the path of the onrushing FRECKLINGTON who fired past the goalkeeper.

Livermore saw two shots blocked moments later and this was being played like a cup-tie rather than a Championship fixture. Lee-Barrett produced a superb fine to tip a deflected left-footed Whelpdale shot around the post with the resulting corner kick cleared from the back post.

The pressure was beginning to intensify on the home side with corner kicks and free-kicks, but Posh were defending with heart and when it got past the back four, Lewis was there, atoning for an earlier error by parrying a header from Murphy.

Reid saw a shot deflected over at the other end after good hold up play from Dickinson. A snap-shot from Dickinson flicked off the head of Delaney and sent the ball spinning towards the corner until the goalkeeper threw himself to his right to push the effort around the post.

Posh made it 3-1 on 85 minutes from a corner kick, Frecklington's in-swinging set-piece was powered home by Welsh international Craig MORGAN who rose above the defence to slam the ball past Lee-Barrett.

Lewis claimed a corner at the second attempt with two minutes remaining as Ipswich tried to set up a grandstand finish. Four minutes of added time was indicated by the fourth official as Posh tried to hang on for a second successive home victory.
