A goal from George Boyd two minutes from time earned Peterborough United their first Coca-Cola Championship win of the season after an incredible game of football at London Road that saw Darren Ferguson's men bounce back from 2-0 at half-time to win 3-2.
Peterborough United, who made one change to their starting line-up from the 1-1 draw at Leicester City, made a lively start in the sunshine at London Road with Paul Coutts showing some neat touches in midfield in the opening exchanges.
Gylfi Sigurdsson went close to the breakthrough on seven minutes but his shot at the near post didn't trouble goalkeeper Joe Lewis.
Marek Matejovsky fired wide of the target on the 10-minute mark after a free-kick was worked well to pick out the midfielder 25-yards from goal.
Brian Howard was first player to receive a caution after a late tackle on Boyd in the centre cirlce.
A brave header from Whelpdale was hooked away from danger by Alex Pearce as Posh came close to breaking the deadlock on 20 minutes. Goalkeeper Adam Federici was clattered in the process, but after treatment was soon back on his feet.
The visitors were certainly having the lions share of possession as the game reached the half hour mark and they were rewarded for their efforts with the opening goal on 30 minutes as a direct free kick from SIGURDSSON flew over the wall and into the corner of the net.
Rasiak was denied by Lewis after Williams lost the ball by the touch-line following a grappling match with Brian Howard.
After a sustained spell of Reading pressure, Posh finally began to come out of their shell and an excellent cross from Williams picked out Mackail-Smith, but his header went wide of the upright.
Reading doubled their advantage on 41 minutes as a free-kick from Sigurdsson picked out the unmarked CHURCH who guided his header past Lewis and into the back of the net.
Zakuani was well-placed to clear from his own goal-line as Bertrand got to the by-line and sent in a dangerous cross which eluded Church at the near post.

Posh didn't take long to reduce the arrears as moments after the break Craig MACKAIL-SMITH headed past Federici following a glorious Williams cross.
Mclean and Frecklington were then denied by the Royals goalkeeper and whatever Darren Ferguson said in the dressing room it had the desired effect.
Frecklington tried his luck from distance which the goalkeeper saved and the Reading man was at it again moments later, denying the Posh goal-scorer Mackail-Smith.
The equaliser arrived on 54 minutes and it was slammed past goalkeeper Federici by MCLEAN who took a pass from Boyd in his stride before sending the London Road faithful wild with a classy finish.
Martin saw a shot blocked by Pearce on the hour mark as Posh continued to throw bodies forward into attack.
The over-worked Federici pushed a fierce Mackail-Smith effort around the post on 64 minutes after a sharp turn and shot from the lively front man. Williams was replaced by Jamie Day on 72 minutes as Posh made their final substitution.
Giant striker Rasiak headed over the bar on 74 minutes as Reading made progress down the left hand side with Bertrand an increasing presence on the game. Mclean was denied at the other end by a superb Pearce block before Mackail-Smith blazed over after Martin's fierce cross.
Morgan stabbed goal-wards after a Coutts corner was only half cleared four minutes from time, but Federici pounced on the ball and spared Reading's blushes.
On the stroke of full-time, Posh got their noses in front as a low cross from Martin was flicked into the back of the net by BOYD to send the fans into ecstacy.
Hunt immediately shot wide of the target from long-range as four minutes of stoppage time was signalled by the fourth official. Joe Lewis made a superb save to deny Hunt again deep into stoppage time but he flapped at the resulting corner and Kebe headed wide.
