Peterborough United had a disappointing afternoon as Yeovil Town recorded a 3-1 victory at London Road to make it four wins out of four in Coca-Cola League One.

After a fairly scrappy start, it was Peterborough United who registered the first attempt at goal as a swirling corner from Dean Keates was met by Charlie Lee, but he couldn't keep his header down and goalkeeper Josh Wagenaar was untroubled. Lee was playing at centre back due to an injury sustained by James Chester in training with Lee Frecklington ruled out too due to a similar knock picked up in Thursday's session.

Yeovil front man Andy Welsh showed good feet on a difficult surface to wriggle past two defenders on seven minutes, but his shot flashed wide of the upright. Posh were dealt another injury blow on 18 minutes as Lee limped out of proceedings with Chris Whelpdale the replacement - Martin filling it at centre back as a consequence.

Shaun MacDonald saw a scuffed shot deflect wide of the target as the visitors pressed, knowing that the Posh back-four would have not played together on too many occasions.

Mackail-Smith, with 20 goals to his name already this season, was denied by Wagenaar after the ball bobbled into his path following good work from Paul Coutts. The striker should have done better moments later after a deep Daniel Blanchett cross picked him out, but he headed over the crossbar from a decent position in the box.

Paul Warne's goal bound header was well blocked by a combination of Russell Martin and Gabriel Zakuani on the half hour mark and from the resulting set-piece, the visitors got their noses in front as Terry Skiverton got to the ball before Lewis and the ball was bundled home by Paul WARNE.

Blanchett was cautioned moments after the goal for a late tackle on Andy Welsh and from the resulting free-kick, powerful defender BROWN was allowed to hook the ball into the back of the net from an acute angle. Boyd had a chance to half the deficit but poked the ball goal-wards with his left-foot rather than have a go with his right and Wagenaar made an easy stop.

Alex Prijovic was denied at the near post by Lewis, but he punched the corner kick clear of danger when it was swung in moments later. Mclean fired wide when well-placed on the stroke of half-time after a good through-ball from Boyd as Posh tried to reduce the arrears before the interval.

In stoppage time, a glorious cross from Blanchett picked out Whelpdale at the back post, but his down-ward header was cleared off the line by Alcock and then Keates missed the target from a Boyd centre.

Posh started the second half brightly and created one or two half chances with Boyd firing over from 25-yards after a sustained spell of possession. Substitute Whelpdale saw a shot roll inches past the post after some good foot-work on the edge of the penalty area on 53 minutes.

Joe Lewis made a decent save, diving to his left to deny a fierce drive from substitute Kieran Murtagh. Posh reduced the arrears on 55 minutes as a harmless cross from Whelpdale was flicked on by Boyd into the path of MCLEAN who fired the ball into the back of the net.

Boyd should have levelled moments later but struck the ball straight at Wagenaar with Mackail-Smith also well-placed. Boyd volleyed inches past the post with a delicate left-foot shot as the pressure intensified on the visitors.

Mclean then screwed a shot wide as Darren Ferguson's men continued to create decent opportunities in front of goal. Whelpdale then tried his luck with Wagenaar making a routine save.

At the other end, Lewis tipped a well-directed Welsh shot over the crossbar as the Glovers responded well. Wagenaar produced a fine block to deny Boyd on 68 minutes after Batt prodded the ball forward and surely the equaliser was just around the corner.

It was the visitors the got the all-important next goal as goalkeeper Joe Lewis allowed a routine strike from MACDONALD from an acute angle to go straight through him and over the goal-line.

Mclean's shot on 78 minutes was pushed around the post by the Yeovil goalkeeper as Posh tried to respond, but the third goal had knocked a lot of the stuffing out of the home side, particularly on the terraces.

Posh continued to huff and puff without creating too many more opportunities as the visiting supporters behind the goal continued with their celebrations. A Coutts free-kick was cleared over his own crossbar by Brown on 88 minutes but the home supporters were looking for the exits.
