Peterborough United were forced to settle for a point after Scott McGleish's late equaliser at Adams Park but Darren Ferguson's men equalled a club record after stretching their unbeaten league run to 17 games after a pulsating Coca-Cola League Two encounter.
Wycombe Wanderers made a fast-paced start to the League Two encounter and only a superb block from Jamie Day stopped Craig Woodman firing into the bottom corner after the left-back had initially miss-judged a flighted cross from Tommy Doherty.
The rain soon started to fall making the Adams Park pitch rather slick although with rugby being played on the surfaced recently, it was not a true run of the ball. A foul by Charlie Lee on the edge of the area was punished by a free-kick and Stefan OAKES sent a fantastic curling effort around the wall and into the back of the net.
The goal was a blow the visitors who in truth had made a sluggish start to the contest. A deflected free-kick from Oakes was pushed around the post by Lewis as the pressure continued to mount on Darren Ferguson's men who still hadn't settled.
George Boyd did see a goal-bound shot blocked by Russell Martin on seven minutes but Wycombe were still looking comfortable. Day was cautioned for a lunge on Torres although the Argentine appeared to make the most of the challenge from the Posh left-back.
The Posh were still not in the game as the first half passed the 30-minute mark with no chances created in front of goal and no real composure in possession. Aaron Mclean was looking isolated in attack and only the trickery on the ball from Boyd looked like unlocking a well-marshalled Wycombe back-line.
Mclean did head a deep Whelpdale corner kick wide of the target on 42 minutes, but to say it was a chance would be stretching it as the striker did well to make any contact. Lee was cautioned for persistent fouling moments later, his third indiscretion of the first period.
Knight was the booked for a late tackle on Day as the first half threatened to boil over with both sides throwing themselves into tackles. Darren Ferguson will be very disappointed by his side's performance as they laboured throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Posh got the second half underway trying to protect their unbeaten run and in turn equal a club record, but they would have to show a vast improvement in the second period as they were below par in the opening 45 minutes, while the Chairboys were playing some excellent football.
A 30-yard free-kick from Oakes skidded wide of Lewis' right hand post with the goalkeeper moving late, suggesting his view was obscured. Posh had appeals for handball turned down on 50 minutes as Keates' shot appeared to strike the arm of Johnson inside the area before Mclean lashed a left-foot shot over as Posh finally woke up.
Posh were starting to test Fielding and he had to show alert handling to stop a dipping shot from Charlie Lee after a good burst from midfield. Liam Hatch replaced Rendell on the hour mark as Ferguson tried to a different tactic in attack with Hatch's no-nonsense style introduced.
A Williamson shot was deflected wide on 62 minutes as the home side responded to the pressure they were under with some sustained attacking endeavour of their own. Posh drew themselves level on 66 minutes as substitute Hatch forced the ball into the path of BOYD and his shot took a slight deflection and wrong-footed the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner for his 15th goal of the campaign. Keates then snatched at a chance and ballooned it over the bar as Posh went in search of the second goal. A cross-shot from Mclean flew over the angle of post and bar as Ferguson's men grabbed the initiative.
The pressure was intensifying on the hosts as Lee and Hyde combined, but the former decided to cross instead of shoot and Hatch couldn't get on the end of it. New Wanderers signing Delroy Facey came close to restoring the home side's lead after he managed to get to a deep cross from Oakes with Morgan hacking the ball clear.
The home side had responded well to conceding and were beginning to pile on the pressure again winning successive corner kicks as the game moved into the final 10 minutes. Posh got the goal they were after at the other end though as Keates' superb cross was powered home by substitute Liam HATCH at the back post whose header had enough to beat Fielding in the Wycombe goal. The goal brought wild celebrations behind the goal as the fans, who had been magnificent throughout, jumped with delight.
Wycombe were awarded a spot-kick after McGLEISH was pushed by substitute Low and the striker coolly slotted the ball into the corner of the net to earn the hosts an unlikely point. Mclean screwed a shot wide moments later as Posh went in search of a winner again rather than holding on to the point.
After four minutes of entertaining injury time, the referee finally brought an end to a pulsating encounter at Adams Park.
