Morecambe frustrated Peterborough United at London Road and claimed a deserved point from a League Two encounter that failed to spark with the hosts lacklustre throughout.
After a quiet opening the game burst to life as Josh Low found some room down the left, after initially stumbling he picked out Danny Crow who saw his shot blocked by Jim Bentley. Moments later exciting winger Chris Whelpdale headed wide of the target after Low had picked him out at the far post.
Posh were dealt a blow on 20 minutes as winger Low pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury as he tried to receive a lose ball. Manager Darren Ferguson responded quickly an introduced George Boyd into the action.
Goalkeeper Tyler made a comfortable save to deny former Blackpool striker Matthew Blinkhorn on 26 minutes as Morecambe found some space down Posh's right hand side.
Posh had the ball in the back of the net on 33 minutes as Crow picked his strike partner out but as Mclean headed past Lewis he already knew he was standing in an offside position.
Six footer Lewis was looking commanding in the Morecambe goal using his considerable height to pluck crosses out of the air and frustrate the Posh striker force who were being starved of any notable chances.
Mclean screwed a shot wide of the post two minutes before the interval after turning his defender on the edge of the Morecambe penalty area.
A long range effort from Lee didn't trouble Lewis in the Morecambe goal with midfielder urged to shoot by frustrated London Road faithful.
Morecambe came out of the blocks the quickest in the second halve and Tyler was forced in to the first save as he pushed away a fierce drive from Sorvel before Michael Twiss saw his rebound blocked by Micah Hyde.
A forceful run from Jamie Day lifted the spirits of the fans as he got to the by line and delivered a teasing cross that was superbly defended by Artell. Whelpdale then tested Lewis with a glancing header from the resulting corner kick.
A deflected effort from Crow was saved by Lewis just before the hour mark as Danny Adams was dispossessed just inside his own half.
George Boyd forced Lewis into a smart save on 61 minutes with the giant goalkeeper pushing the ball around the post.
Posh were awarded a spot kick on 62 minutes as Jamie Day was tripped by Yates and MCLEAN stepped up and coolly slotted the ball to the goalkeeper's left and finally broke the stalemate.
Goalkeeper Lewis was quick off of his line to smother Adam Newton's goal bound effort after Crow had flicked the ball into the path of the onrushing substitute.
An injury to Crow created the opportunity for manger Darren Ferguson to introduce Craig Mackail-Smith into the action where he partnered Aaron Mclean in what is expected to be an exciting Posh strike force.
Mackail-Smith nearly made the perfect introduction as he looked certain to score from an Adam Newton cross, but goalkeeper Lewis produced heroics to keep the effort out and deny the front man an instant impact.
Tyler made a superb save to deny Twiss an equaliser after Morecambe caught Posh cold on the counter attack.
Posh were appearing to be more desperate for the second goal and nearly got caught out again on the counter attack as Twiss was left one on one with Morgan and Tyler had to be alert to parry a fierce shot wide of the target.
Charnock received the first booking of the game on 75 minutes for a trip on Baker but the resulting free kick came to nothing.
Morecambe equalised on 83 minutes as shocking defending from the Posh back line allowed THOMPSON time and space to rifle a low shot past Tyler and into the back of the net.
Striker Mackail-Smith had the ball in the back of the net on 89 minutes but was quite obviously standing in an offside position and the effort was ruled out.
Four minutes of stoppage time was indicated by the fourth official but it didn't yield any more chances and as the referee blew the final whistle, the fans showed their disappointment, booing the side off.
