Last night, Cllr Keith Sharp made his first public engagement as the new Mayor of Peterborough to the penultimate Peterborough United Unity FC training session. Cllr Sharp was joined by Mayoress Doris Marchant to wish the boys well in their upcoming tournament at Cambersands next weekend.

Cllr Sharp was introduced to all of the squad and demonstrated some skills of his own before posing for photographs with the squad in their new kit which has been donated by the club.

The Unity FC squad have been training together for 10 weeks and will set off on the bank holiday weekend to represent the Football club in the Cambersands tournament, under the guidance of Community coach Simon Ryan.

Community Officer Nick Sheppard said: 'It was a great honour for us to have the new Mayor coming to see us in his first public engagement. Cllr Sharp met all of the lads in the squad and posed for a team photo with the boys in their new kit. The Unity FC project has once again been a huge success and the partnership between the council and ourselves continues to go from strength to strength. Also, a big mention must go to Jason Horne and Javed Ahmed from the City Council who work tirelessly to help organise the project.'
