Football League Community Cup

Posted on: Mon 26 Apr 2010

On Wednesday (21st April), William Law Primary School and Werrington Primary School graced the London Road turf to take part in a showcase game as part of the Football League Community Cup. The two teams fought off competition from eight other schools to reach the final and win the opportunity to play a friendly in front of their parents on the Peterborough United pitch.

William Law won the final the previous week by three goals to one with a superb performance, which eventually saw off a spirited Werrington team. The friendly fixture went much the same way, not long after taking the lead, William Law were pegged back by a stunning strike to put the teams level. Following the equaliser it was William Law who sprung to life and went on to claim a 6-1 victory. Following the match, both teams were presented with certificates, and it will be William Law going on to represent Peterborough United in the Championship South section of the Cup at Crystal Palace.

Football in the Community Officer Nick Sheppard said: 'This week I have witnessed two fantastic games of football between these two teams. The lads enjoyed the opportunity of walking out the tunnel and taking to the pitch and it will be hopefully a memory that will last with them for a very long time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the schools who took part in the competition and we look forward to them returning for next year's competition. Good luck to William Law in the Championship South section at Selhurst Park.'
