Posh Able To Deliver Duke of Edinburgh Award

Posted on: Tue 18 Nov 2008

Last month, Peterborough United in the Community received funding to enable the programme to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh Award through the football club. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is the world's leading achievement award for young people (14-25yrs), recognised by universities and employer's alike and that is why by working in partnership with football clubs and the Football League Trust it will enable more young people to reach their full potential, whatever their circumstances.

Out of 72 clubs under the Football League Trust, only 16 clubs were successful in gaining the funding to deliver the DofE Award. Football in the Community Officer Nikki Johnson said: 'After a busy few months working hard re-launching the Peterborough United in the Community programme, it is an excellent start to their new programme to receive this opportunity.

'The next stages will be for the Peterborough United in the Community staff to work closely with the DofE and get themselves trained up to deliver some of the programme. The programme will also include other young leader qualifications such as the FA's Junior Football Organisers course which will be available under the club. The youngsters will get to experience many of the different departments that run the football club as well as lots of experience in coaching.'

The programme will be due to start April 2009 and more information will be posted nearer the time.
