Batt Scores Twice In Reserve Victory
Shaun Batt scored twice and made the other goal as Peterborough United's reserve team claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Stevenage Borough in the latest Football Combination League fixture.
Batt was deployed as a striker in the match at London Road and was in impressive form, causing the Borough defence plenty of problems with his pace and strength. Posh were always in command of the game and could have scored as early as the third minute but Chris Whelpdale saw his shot saved.
Batt could have opened his account on 11 minutes, but he was leaning back when the cross from Callum Reed came into the centre and he fired over. On 17 minutes, Scott Ginty saw a shot saved before recent signing Dominic Green jinked his way past two defenders before seeing his shot drift wide.
The deadlock was broken on 23 minutes after a glorious pass from Micah Hyde picked out BATT, his first touch was to knock the ball into his path with his head before superbly lobbing goalkeeper Jordan.
Batt headed wide moments later before Stevenage created a chance for former Posh striker Calum Willock, but his shot was blocked by Sam Gaughran. Kieran Charnock was booked four minutes after the re-start for a foul before Gaughran headed a wicked Green corner over the bar.
On 73 minutes, the advantage was nearly extended as a Hyde ball found Ginty, but his shot was saved and Green saw his rebound cleared off the line by Vincenti with the aid of the post.
On 83 minutes, it was 2-0 to the hosts as GINTY tapped home from close-range after Batt had outpaced the defence and seen his shot half-stopped by Jordan. The final goal of the afternoon arrived two minutes from time as BATT showed great pace and power to get ahead of the centre back, his shot was saved with the legs of Jordan, but he was quick enough to fire the loose ball home.
